Random Thoughts and Photographic Tomfoolery

Having succesfully put off bringing home any books for the past three days I’ve reached the harsh and unfriendly conclusion that, since I know I won’t have any free time over the weekend, the next two nights are going to be study nights. (I do realize that by typing these words I have immediately earned the hate of every person with a larger work load than me. Please, dear stressed readers, don’t fret. I will be swamped just as much as you very shortly.)

I’m starting to feel that I should be freaking out soon…I have a science test on monday as well as an oral presentation (three person group in which one person has done absoloutely no work for a presentation that is going to be worth a large amount of our history marks.). I also have two English presentations that I need to begin stressing over soon, one of which is going to be very offensive (my partner and I are writing a short story called ‘The Prostitute’s Tale’. Please, dear relatives, do not disown me.) and the other of which is probably going to comprise of me doing all the work (I hate having my partner assigned for projects.) for yet another oral presentation that has a lot of weight with which way our marks lean.

In addition to all this, there’s only about another month until exams, I need to start thinking about a summer job (I really don’t want to work at Timmies, but job opportunities in Saint John do not seem to be very friendly for your average fifteen year old.), I’m already worrying about next year’s classes, etc ,etc.

Blargh.

Funny, I’ve decided to try and stress less…let’s see how that goes…

Fortunately my life is not entirely composed of stress…there is always reading (‘The Jungle’, by Upton Sinclair), music (Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective and the Arctic Monkeys. My music taste is being corrupted by my pretentious hipster friends.) and other ‘artsy-fartsy’ outlets, my current obsession being photography.

Over the last week or so I’ve been playing around with the shutter speeds on my camera, with fairly pleasing results.,,

And then, just to top off all of my angsty shutter speed image shenanigans, I decided to experiment with a little light painting:

Between my camerafuntimes-exploits and the music I have been listening to lately, I feel equal parts pretentious and artsy.

Kaelen.

Coming to a realization:

I really dislike Mondays.

I am quite verbal in my dislike of Mondays.

I’ve come to the conclusion that if I am going to continually write about all the terrible things that start off my week I might as well also give you my coping mechanisms. It’s only fair.

So, without further ado: things that make the bleary, gray, horrible beginning of my week a little bit more lovable.

  • Tea. Not always doable in the mornings, but I would still advise you to sacrifice all of the required ten minutes it takes to make a cup of tea and drink it, or at least smell it appreciatively and then forget it on some counter top.
  • Cats. If, like me, you find yourself with a kitty shaped gap in your life you’re kinda out of luck with this one. Luckily the internet is here to fill up your cat-absence with pictures of cats. Although not quite so pettable, a kitten picture is better than no kitten. (when especially desperate in the mornings I would advise you to take the hardcore step of kitten gifs.)
  • If you find yourself still in school, a slack morning class may help. Depending on your temperament and schedule this may or may not work for you. In my case I would happily transfer out of tech but for two reasons:

(I need the tech credit in order to do important things in life, like graduate,

and

(This class provides me with internet access and a teacher who doesn’t care what sort of shenanigans we get up to so long as some sort of word documents get transferred as proof that we are learning ‘something‘.

  • Bjork. Alternately ‘The Tallest Man on Earth’ or ‘Animal Collective’. These all tend to make the world a better place in the mornings when I don’t want to get out of bed.
  • Yarn. Even if you don’t knit or crochet, do yourself a favor and look at pretty skeins of yarn once in a while. Looking at yarn in real life gives you the opportunity to rub it against your neck and smell it, whereas online yarn is slightly easier to find and provides you with a smaller chance that your money is going to fly out of your pocket. The choice is up to you.
  • Sleep. This one makes such a gigantic difference to Mondays. And if sleep doesn’t appeal to you (I have been known to look down on sleep as being ‘for the weak’.) perhaps researching things lucid dreaming might make you a bit more interested.

Speaking of lucid dreaming, I watched this beautiful and trippy film last night…well worth it!
